STARTING AGAIN THIS FALL!

When you first read the words Jesus spoke, “Let the children come to me …” did you ever imagine He might be speaking His heart for children into you? Did you ever think you could be His hands, His feet, His heart, His voice, His love to His children?

At First Baptist Church, we have an opportunity to do just that for the children who walk each morning through the doors of West Gresham Elementary School.  The principal at West Gresham has shared many opportunities with us; ways in which we can be good neighbors with them and help them in their task of educating the young people of Gresham.

Read the opportunities below and think about which one best suits you, your gifts and your time commitment.

OASIS Reading Tutor – This is for volunteers age 50 and over. Mentor and support a student’s reading development. Work one-on-one for an hour per week. Training, materials, and support available through the OASIS program.

Classroom Volunteer – Support students and the teacher in a variety of ways: supervise students, work with individuals or small groups. Prepare materials, etc. Schedule to be determined with teacher.

R.O.A.R. Program – (Really Outstanding Amazing Reading) Volunteer – This is an at-home reading program for Kindergarten through 3rd graders.  Helping with the R.O.A.R. Program would require an 8:00 to 8:30 am. commitment.

Library Volunteer – You can help manage the library collection: shelving books, checking in/out, repairing materials, etc.
